About Us

Simply Texas Gourmet Foods is a father and son story...one about growth and love and teamwork. We've made a commitment to each other and to our customers to provide a fun experience for people...we like people at Simply Texas Gourmet Foods.

We started our life as Dave's Pepper Palace - the brainchild of the late Dave Clancy. As a teenager, the Pepper Palace - in Old Town Spring, Texas - was my introduction to the world of spicy food and Dave was the ambassador. It was with a shock that we learned Dave had suddenly passed away in the winter of 2004 and the fate of the shop was up in the air.

What an opportunity to work with my Dad and re-establish the close relationship we had when I was younger. We jumped in and discovered quickly how little we knew about running a retail store.

Trial by fire, indeed. After a couple Crawfish Festivals and Home for the Holiday celebrations, we started to get the hang of things..sort of. We still find things we're doing wrong..almost on a daily basis.

As things grew and store layouts changed, we decided to expand our product line to feature more than hot and spicy foods...embracing the cuisine of Texas in its entirety.

Now we're the go to place in the Houston area for mayhaw jelly, gourmet peanut butter, BBQ rubs and local honey as well as hot sauces and salsas. We adopted the name Simply Texas to better reflect this variety.

In 2009, we moved into the corporate gift arena. Our custom label program has been an overwhelming success with local and national businesses...constantly evolving...rolling stone gathers no moss, etc etc.

And here we are approaching 2012. Assuming the Mayans had it wrong, the future looks very bright. We've moved to a new location..on Main Street here in Old Town Spring...so look for us in the Pepto Bismol colored building.

Keep on burnin...
Matt and Jay Potter
